The Kibby Skinner IFM Project
Weyerhaeuser has been a leader in sustainable forestry and land management for more than 120 years. The company manages approximately 11 million acres of forest land in the United States, making it the largest publicly traded timberland Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).
As part of its sustainability commitment, Weyerhaeuser is partnering with Carbon Direct to design and develop scientifically robust, high-quality improved forest management (IFM) credits. Through the partnership, Carbon Direct is working with Weyerhaeuser to align forest carbon projects with the Criteria for High-Quality Carbon Dioxide Removal, which provides science-based benchmarks to drive effective climate action at scale. As part of the project design and development, Carbon Direct scientists assessed 60 distinct requirements across six categories to ensure that all credits offered will generate real, additional carbon absorbed and stored in project areas.
The Kibby Skinner IFM Project is the first issuance of credits by Weyerhaeuser through the voluntary carbon market. Covering approximately 50,000 acres and verified through a third-party auditor, the Kibby Skinner IFM Project is expected to generate 475,000 credits over a 20-year crediting period.
Together, Weyerhaeuser and Carbon Direct are delivering large-scale, high-quality natural climate solutions designed for climate impact. To learn more about the Kibby Skinner IFM Project, download the data sheet.
