Carbon Direct Platform Updates Q1 2024

Environmental justice assessments, communication guidance and streamlined data collection

Environmental justice assessments, communication guidance and streamlined data collection

Welcome to the Q1 2024 product release update. We’re continually adding and improving features in the Carbon Direct Platform to make it easier for our customers to set, track, and deliver on climate goals.

Interested in exploring the Platform? Schedule a demo.

Environmental and climate justice assessments: Get deeper diligence on how carbon projects impact local communities

Environmental and climate justice assessments have always been included in Carbon Direct project evaluations, and now those findings are easily accessible on the Platform. This allows you to understand how each project aligns with your goals, and better communicate the impact of your purchase.

The new dedicated “environmental and climate justice” section on the Harms and Benefits page for each project gives you more context on how it supports environmental justice standards and adds to local community benefits.

Carbon credit purchase confirmation and communication guidelines: Share your climate impact with confidence

We recognize the challenges around communicating climate impact in a defensible way. In response, we’ve built new features to give you easy access to key facts and details about your credit purchases, in addition to guidance on how to talk about them.

Download order-level purchase confirmation PDFs with project details and retirement statuses as a shareable asset to support your communication strategy. Our new communication guidelines can also help you ensure that any communication about the impact of your purchase is accurate and transparent.

Guidance and automations for data collection: Save time gathering data and get your footprint faster

We are focused on making data collection easier so you can spend less time gathering and cleaning up data for measuring your footprint.

For Scope 1 and 2 emissions, utilities account for a large part of a company’s carbon footprint, but the data is often locked in the utility bills that needs to be manually reviewed and parsed. We’ve added new functionality that automatically extracts utility spend and usage data from the Electricity and Natural Gas bills, streamlining the data collection and aggregation process. So, you just upload your bills to the platform and it takes care of the rest.

Upload data directly from utility providers without having to reformat each file.

For Scope 3 emissions, we now help you export corporate financial spend data from financial accounting systems. We provide clear instructions on required versus optional data, how to format it, and where to find it. Additionally, a sample dataset is available to download and use as a reference.

We have also added automatic data mapping capabilities to save you time and effort on sharing your spend data. Once the data is uploaded to the Platform, it automatically detects the column headers from the file and maps them to the headers that are needed for calculating the carbon footprint.

Once your data has been mapped to the appropriate columns, you'll have a chance to review the data.
